Anthurium sp. "Birdsnest"

Anthurium sp. Birdsnest

A prime example of the birdsnest type of Anthurium, this plant is currently in use in our work as the birdsnest parent for some of our Anthurium crosses. We have used this plant as a pollen parent to duplicate our Jamaican Birdsnest cross, and will use it in other work as well. The birdsnest group of Anthuriums is problematical in that they seem to intercross freely and so there are a lot of mixed varieties out there. Thus, we cannot say what species this one is, or whether or not it is also a mixed variety rather than a pure species.

This plant grows best in a very open mix with coarse bark chips and less than 20% peat in the mix, and prefers a shady or semi-shady area to grow in.
